Elena Gissi

PhD, University Iuav of Venice (Italy)
Elena Gissi is a Senior Lecturer in Applied Ecology at Iuav University of Venice. Her main research interest is in ecosystem-based management in coastal and marine areas, with the specific focus on conservation planning and maritime spatial planning in the Mediterranean Sea. Elena is the scientific coordinator for Iuav of different European collaborative projects, among which the projects SUPREME (SUpporting maritime spatial Planning in the Eastern MEditerranean; 2017-2019), SIMWESTMED (Supporting Maritime Spatial Planning in the Western Mediterranean region; 2017-2019) and ADRIPLAN (Adriatic and Ionian Maritime Spatial Planning; 2013-2015). Since 2012 she coordinates the Erasmus Mundus Master Course in MSP (EMMCMSP), delivered by the University Iuav of Venice (lead partner), the University of Seville, and the University of the Azores. She is lecturer of “Ecosystem-based management of marine and coastal areas” in the EMMCMSP, and of “Environmental Analysis and Assessment” in the undergraduate program of Spatial and Regional Planning at Iuav University of Venice. Elena is co-chair of the working group on “Area-based management” in the COST Action CA 15217 OceanGov Ocean Governance for sustainability Challenges, Options and the Role of Science, and also member of the COST Action CA 15121 MARCONS Advancing marine conservation in the European and contiguous seas.
