Catarina Frazão Santos (PI)

Researcher and Lecturer, Department of Animal Biology, University of Lisbon
Picture
​Catarina is an Assistant Researcher and lecturer at the University of Lisbon, where she leads the Ocean Planning Lab. She holds a PhD in Marine Sciences, and has a background in marine biology and environmental management. Her primary research focus pertains to the multiple dimensions of ocean sustainability, particularly sustainable ocean planning and governance under global environmental change. She teaches master and bachelor courses at the Department of Animal Biology, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon. She is also an integrated member of MARE-Marine and Environmental Sciences Center, and a Visiting Researcher at NOVA School of Business and Economics. Over the past 6 years, she has been actively supporting the European Commission, the UNESCO and the World Bank as a senior consultant on MSP-related topics. She is also Editor-in-Chief of the new Nature npj Ocean Sustainability journal.
